I am planning a birdwatching expedition to the Daintree. I'd like to stay in a bed and breakfast, preferably birding-friendly. Can anyone offer recommendations?

Hi George,

Try Red Mill House, they're a gorgeous old Queenslander focussed on birdwatching. They have a couple of different accommodation options, but I'm sure you'll find they meet your birdwatching and accommodation needs.

Red Mill House is on the Daintree River but the Daintree Rainforest Cape Tribulation area is 35 km north - you have to cross the Daintree River. There are 5 B&Bs in the this area. The one most interesting to birdos would be Rainforest Hideaway at Cape Tribulation set right in the forest and which has Cassowaries visiting on a regular basis. You can find out more info about B&Bs at www.daintreecoast.com and choose the accommodation page.

Red Mill House in Daintree Village is owned and operated by very avid birdwatchers. They supply excellent, up to date infomation on where to find various species and offer good advise as to which birding activities are worth while. Cape Tribulation was suggested as a day trip and Cassowarys were located where Red Mill House had suggested. Staying south of the Daintree River is generally a better option as you have more and varied habitats at your disposal. A very good birding cruise operates from Daintree Village - once again, suggested by Red Mill House. The accommodation is also excellent.
