Hi, May not be the place to ask but we thought some knowledgeable person might be able to help...
We have just returned to the UK after an Australian holiday tour.
We've been wondering what species a particular bird was that we came across when in Port Douglas, Queensland. A friend said they thought it might be a Metallic Starling. So, first of all my bird doesn't seem to look like the MS in your to me and we wondered if you had a view as to what was the bird we saw...I have a picture but am unsure how to upload it...if it is possible can someone tell me how to?.
For additional information the birds were in a large flock of many hundreds individuals, they were very noisy, they were zooming around at dusk and after dark a bit like the UK starling and finally came to roost, still loudly chattering in trees above the restaurant we were in an hour and more after dusk.
A person we met in Port Douglas said he thought the birds were visiting from N.Guinea?
Any advice would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
Pete |

It sounds like your friend is correct. Most do migrate from New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Indonesia in the warmer months.
I have emailed you a photo of Metallic Starlings.
