Hi Sean
there are a few spots at Cape Tribulation where you can snorkel off the fringing reef, on the sea edge where it drops away into deep water. There is one location about 100 meters north of the Beach House.
There is also some qood snorkelling in the river water holes to watch the fish and the tortoises.
But with the Great Barrier Reef less than one hour off shore from Cape Tribulation why not go out there for the day - the reef is only a metre below the surface and is spectacular - you get 6 hours snorkelling on a day trip from Cape Tribulation with Rumrunner |

| I, too, am interested in snorkelling off the beach simply because my family doesn't do well on boat trips. Also, my 10-year-old would only want to snorkel for an hour or so and so it would be nice to be able to be close to land. Is the snorkelling on the fringe reef good? I went snorkelling on the reef last trip to Australia. The boat trip was rocky. The conditions made snorkelling difficult. I guess that's another reason I'm looking for a very kid-friendly place to snorkel. |
